[From an email dated 10/21/08] Mary and Frank, I didn't get to put Pistol's sneakers on right-a-way since we were out of town. We had substantial rains here so once I got the chance to put them on we had to have a ritual hoof washing first. Pistol took a few high steps and then was good to go. I let him wear them all the first day but the second day got him out to play a few Parelli games with him. Mind you he's been tippy toeing around for most of his life. I played a few simple games and then decided to play the circling game (not to be confused with lunging). I asked for a trot which he gave willingly and without tippy toeing around. Once I asked for more (lope) he tossed his head broke loose from me and went bucking and playing all around the pen. I was thrilled to see that! He hasn't felt that good and had that much fun for years, literally!!! I learned from the Parelli's that Pistols personality type is Left Brain Extrovert. This personality loves to move their feet. Well, Pistol hasn't loved to move his feet until now. Now he gets to be himself playful exuberant and moves. Thank you for such a lovely product and PLEASE put me back on the list for new sneakers. You remember my husband was close to putting him down out of compassion of course, but now Pistol has a future. I can see us at the Parelli games showing off what this marvelous, intelligent horse can do. He is so much fun and until you meet him you cannot imagine how delightful he is. I just hope I can adjust quickly to the fact that he actually does like to move his feet :). I will keep you up to date on his progress. By the way, I watched Martha's DVD. Now that was informative. I am going to try to take better care of his trims...thank you for recommending it. Forever grateful, Teresa Whitaker [From an email dated 10/17/08] Hi Mary,
We have had Saffie's Hoofwings for about 1 month and we just
love them! They make it so much easier to keep her feet
covered while her hoofs grow back out. She developed
laminitis and then foundered in 3 of her feet. Her back
feet were much worse than her front foot. The vet and
farrier suggested we keep her back feet covered. That
started our problem! We used a vet wrap product, diapers,
duct tape and another product that wrapped around the hoof
with velcro, but none of it would stay on very well. I was
re-wrapping her feet sometimes 2-3 times a day. Saffie has
been very patient through all this and is now put out in the
round-pen for several hours a couple times a day. She is no
longer sore and although the farrier said she won't be sound
for many, many months (till her hoofs grow out), she is
headed in the right direction (thank God for that). The
Hoofwings are sturdy and so easy to put on when she goes o
ut. I wanted to send an email and let you know how much we
appreciated your help over the phone and the very prompt
service we received in getting the Hoofwings.
Thank you so much! Saffie, Sandy & Gene E. [From an email dated 10/12/08]
[From an email dated 10/6/08] Hi Frank and Mary: So I went on my ride in the bluffs/mountains of Southern Minnesota. It was gorgeous! I was so impressed with my new Hoofwings, I can’t even tell you! They went up and down those rocky hills with absolutely no problems at all. And, unfortunately, the first thing we encounter to get to the trails is a very steep sand gully. The horses literally sink a foot in this sand and it’s a scramble to get to the top. It’s really awful; but we have to do it every time out to get to the main trail system. I was sure this sand would cause major troubles; but nothing! The boots stayed put and there was no sand anywhere but a small amount right under his hoof, where it did no harm anyway. I was SO relieved and happy J And even though these boots had almost no break-in time, they didn’t do any rubbing at all. And they are so easy on and off!! It’s amazing to me that they work so well when they are so easy to use! The pictures are of Flashy on top of one of the bluffs looking out over the valley and the other is most of the group at the same overlook. Flash and I are second from the right. You can see his boots in this one J Thank God for Frank & Mary and my Hoofwings J Thanks again, Diane P.S. I am so looking forward to getting the hinds. The other boots I’ve been using on his hinds are a pain in the ass!
[From an email dated 9/26/08] Mary: [From an email dated 9/22/08] Hello, I received the new boots in the mail last week. I have to tell you how pleased I am with the boots and the service. My little mare is a good match for me. She is doing wonderfully with the boots. Some of the trails are rocky, like the transmission lines and tote roads. We do water crossings and mud and they haven’t failed me once. Great product.........if only I could convince my riding buddies to replace the shoes with the boots and go barefoot!! Maria Quintal [from an email dated 7/28/08 Hi Frank and Mary, I cannot emphasize enough about how great your Hoofwings are, my rescue founder pony, Pepsi, moves beautifully in them, perfect heel first landings. I wish I could make a video so you could see how she moves with and without them. My vet told me she’d need special shoeing and Bute her whole life, do to the previous damage done and lack of care by her previous owners. He was here last week and couldn’t believe how well she’s moving. I attached some pics to this email, so you could see her smiling face. J Forever grateful ~ Alicia Mosher & Pepsi
Pepsi Another example of farrier science.
And Mac didn’t want to be left out of the photo opportunity! He doesn’t go anywhere without his Hoofwings either!
[From an email dated 11/22/06] Dearest Frank and Mary, I just want to start by saying THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for making such a wonderful product. Our barefoot journey began in February 2005. Without Hoofwings we never would have been able to do it. As you know we had 2 injuries since then with lots of lay up and lost time but we're finally BAREFOOT. We just came back from an 8 mile trail pace. I used the Hoofwings because he just came back from his most recent injury and I was afraid to be without them. I tend to get a little dependent on them, but my horse always lets me know when he's ready, because all of a sudden he'll keep pulling them off. It takes me awhile but after about the 3rd time I finally get the message and off they come and he's fine. I was apprehensive about going on the trail pace; one because he just started working again and two because we had terrible rain all week before the trail ride and I was worried about the Hoofwings staying on. There was one water crossing and lots of deep thick mud from all the rain. Well let me tell you, the Hoofwings stayed on through it all. My friends who I rode with were all amazed. We went through some of the deepest muck I've ever been through and when we came out the Hoofwings were still on. We trotted, we cantered we galloped and even had a couple of bucks in there. Through it all, after 8 miles they were fine. AMAZING! The day after the trail pace I rode without the Hoofwings and he's doing great. After his last injury and lay-up his soles were very thin and sensitive. The first thing my Vet wanted me to do was to put shoes back on him, but I wouldn’t, I couldn't. My Vet saw how serious I was about keeping him barefoot and suggested that I turn him out in his Hoofwings. We did that and it worked. He wore them in turnout for 9 hours a day. The Hoofwings held up great and the difference in his soles in just 3 weeks was amazing. His soles are thick and hard now. I can’t wait for my Vet to come and see our progress. He will be truly amazed. This is a horse that every Farrier and Vet said could never be barefoot. I know there may come times when he may get a little sore but that’s ok, because we always have our Hoofwings handy. Again, Mary and Frank, thank you. Thank you for all that you are. Forever Grateful, Michelle [From a letter dated 11/16/06] Dear Mary: Thank you for the Hoofwings. Enclosed is a photo of Fabio dancing in his Hoofwings. He actually loves them. Now he can be ridden. His feet are slowly getting better. I can't wait till they are all better. I am grateful to you for the Hoofwings. Sincerely, Sherilyn Allen VMD
[From a message left on our answering machine 11/7/06] "Hello Ms. Winn, I used the Hoofwings on a three mile walk. Next time on a three mile trail and trotted. Some gallop; not much. I'm really happy. I really appreciate my horse's comfort with them. That's the main thing. That's what counts. His well being. Thank you so much. Frankie" [From an email dated 10/16/06] Frank
It is nearly a year
since I last wrote to you. Canon and Felix have used
their Hoofwings through
the year and have been very happy with them. In
addition, we experienced
abscess problems with Charmer this summer and he
'borrowed' Canons
Hoofwings (luckily they are the same size) which has
meant that I could
continue to drive him and have done many miles.
Our farrier has been
particularly interested in them and I believe he has
recommended them to
clients.
The Hoofwings are
however beginning to show signs of wear to the soles (I
am amazed how long they
have lasted when Charmer can wear out steel shoes in 6
weeks).
My only problem with
them is that the neoprene started to split at the back
and I had to have them
repaired.
I would like to order
another set, can you let me know what the current
price is and how long it
would take for delivery. Would it be cheaper if I
ordered 2 sets?
regards
Rachael
[From an email dated 10/3/06] I am soooooo thankful that Sandy found you guys. Gold is doing so well, she's back to fixing my hair and giving me kisses. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I can't believe the difference. Melinda Barnhill [From a letter dated 9/20/06] Laminitas/Founder There is help! Are you now, or have you ever had to experience the heart break that goes along with laminitis? The choices we are given are slim to none for recovery. The pain, fear, anguish and trauma your horse lives through is close to unbearable. Much less the anguish you yourself must endure. I have lived this experience. My horse has also had to endure this experience. But through the grace of God we were given another chance. This is where I learned about the Hoofwing boots. The opportunity to use this product gave my horse the immediate relief she so desperately needed. It also gave us the courage to bear the long process of recovery. We are 2 years into our recovery program. And for the last year I am once again riding and enjoying the trails. My peace of mind is in knowing relief for my horse is just a couple of boots away. I believe so strongly in the Hoofwing product that I have become a representative in my area. My goal is to give the help and hope to others that are facing this problem. If you would like to know more about the Hoofwing boot and how it can help with your personal need please feel free to give me a call. Remember, I have lived through this tragedy. Thank you for taking your time to read this. I can be reached at: 520-457-9311 or cell: 520-255-2847. Thank you again, Gail Sheppard [From an email dated 9/13/06] The Hoofwings are just marvelous. You can't hardly tell Reno's "touchy" from the founder with these shoes on. It really is amazing. He went from laying down in the front yard looking like he was giving up on life, to "mudsliding" down a hill to get to his food the hard way. You guys have given him his hoof confidence back with these. They are easy for me to get off/on with the wings and the notched adjustment. Gosh, you have made his life. I have no doubt I would've lost him within 2 weeks from dehydration and lack of desire for life. He was so terribly depressed he refused water. Now, he's not only grazing all over the fields, but he is TROTTING with the herd and up to get his food. His badly abscessed heels are protected with the socks (and almost healed!) and the Hoofwings allow the bottom of his foot/bad sole to be protected from all the sharp rocks. (He must be road re-foundering, based on how much better he's doing with these on.) Like I was talking to Mary, we have tried quite a few different boots. I have a pair of torn up Easy boots in the garage and countless torn up others. The Hoofwings have been through already more than the others and aren't even showing wear. My husband helped me put them on and said, "That's it?? My gosh, they aren't even ripping!" HA! I said, "It's great, isn't it? It's because THEY ACTUALLY FIT!" I am still yet to figure out what Easy boots fit, certainly not any foot I've ever seen. I have two other very sound, absolutely natural hooved horses and I stuck Easys on for giggles...let me tell you, it was hilarious! Jake, my little pest, limped over like I had affixed a bucket to his foot, and Blue, the blind horse, refused to move as if I had glued cement blocks on him and had plans of his demise in the river. Jake finally just held one foot up and then the other pathetically. I put one of the Hoofwings on Jake to see what he would do and even though it was a bit long, he still walked off without a show. SO, you passed with the "Drama club" AND the re-habbing foundered horse! Thank you guys, again...it brings tears to my eyes to see what he's becoming with your help. Horse hugs! [From an email dated 8/30/06] Dear Mary,
Thank you again for your kind and personal attention
in redoing my Hoofwings. They have been well used and
have served admirably for over two years. The idea of
allowing my then 21 year old Arabian to go barefoot
after wearing shoes all his life was a bit daunting.
However your Hoofwings (which I consider the equine
equivalent of Birkenstocks) made the transition
painless for both of us. We went down the trail the
day after his shoes were pulled. His Hoofwings allow
him to negotiate all kinds of terrain without any
problems.
I recommend your boots to anyone interested in going
barefoot. They are sturdy and easy to put on and take
off. Your boots are truly the best ones I've seen on
the market. Other horse owners seem to battle with
their name brand boots as they attempt to get them on
their horses. Some have even asked to buy my
Hoofwings but, of course, I would never part with
them. Thank you, Mary, for making such a wonderful
boot and helping horses return to a natural and
healthier life.
Sincerely
Connie Ziegler
[From an email dated 8/7/06] The wings are perfect...Thank You, Kathy Wolf [From an email dated 7/12/06] Dear Mary and Frank, Thank you for the perfect horse boot, your Hoofwings have enabled my mare to get off the rubber mats and go for a walk. She has had laminitis and abscessing for the last six weeks, but she appears comfortable to move in your boots. I highly recommend these boots. I've tried others. Hoofwings are wonderful. They don't rub her and they do allow the hoof to breathe. A great product! Thanks from me and Lady. Sincerely, Becky |

[From an email dated 2/13/06] Hi Mary,
Attached (in next email) is a pic with me & Chester with his
Hoofwings on.
Terry & I are riding America one trail at a time. We sold our home
in August of 2005 and are traveling the USA with our 2 Appaloosas,
just riding America the Beautiful Barefoot and with Hoofwings until
our horses are fully transitioned.
[From an email dated 1/31/06] BelleDancer foundered about three years ago. She endured all the conventional therapy until the owners just threw up their hands in disgust and frustration. I met Belle and her owners purely by accident. As serendipity would have it, it was also the time the owners had decided it was time to put Belle down. That was a little over a year ago. I worked for several months correcting her front feet, and, when I hosted a Martha Olivo clinic here last spring, Martha made the finishing touches to the trim and put Belle into Hoofwings. Belle never looked back from then on, until she colicked. About 10 days later, she refoundered. She has been in Hoofwings through the whole rehab process of that last founder, and now with the addition of the little socks....she is off and running! We don't know what level of soundness BelleDancer will achieve. We have no doubt she will be pasture sound, and maybe will one day be able to work again. She has had a long uphill battle, but the Hoofwings have ensured she has had a fighting chance. After all, she's an American mustang! Linda
BelleDancer wearing her Hoofwings The following emails were posted on the Naturalhorsetrim list. Message: 6 Date: Fri, 7 Oct 2005 11:22:17 -0500 From: "Lynn Swearingen" <lynngs@sbcglobal.net> Subject: Houston Police Depart. Mounted Patrol Needs Us The HPD is successfully transitioning their horses to barefoot. Through lack of education and understanding about barefooting a horse many people have voiced concern and doubt and even hostility but the officers who are participating have found that their barefoot horses are fresher at the end of the day and are safer to ride and have almost no lameness issues. The vet bills are down at the HPD barn. But this is not about money and never has been or will be. These kind officers love their good horses ! They will do what it takes to keep them healthy and happy ! Some of the horses in the program were navicular and had other hoof pathologies. The barefoot transition has healed them but a few of the newer, formally shod, horses remain tender. They need more time to heal and grow stronger hooves. The vet for the HPD has requested that the horses wear boots during service. Not all of the horses need boots, having successfully transitioned, but the vet still requires them. Please help the officers keep their horses barefoot. We now know that shoes hinder the miraculous function of the hoof and its mechanism. The hoof is an engineering marvel. It can and does hold up to long hours on rocks and concrete if given the correct trim and movement. It is made to adapt to the terrain that it is on. God made the horse to walk on his own feet in his own shoes (THE HOOF). The mounted police invite you to stop by their barn and view their lovely horses and see how well they are doing. Any donation to the HPD Mounted Police would be used for hoof boots. Congratulations HPD and the officers who strive for the best for their brave steeds ! Scroll down for the contact information. As you have heard, a very large number of HPD horses have had to be booted (their Vet has pulled them from duty until they get something on their hooves), and the only boots which didn't sore them after hours of work are the Hoofwings. The cost to "sponsor" one horse is $175 (that's boots for 1 horse). You can choose the horse that you would like to sponsor - the names are: Vinson Lehnso Tucker Dublin Candence Magnum Billy Additional Horses: Joey Rowdy Dunjun Lofty Doc Shadow Barney If you want to visit and see the horses, please contact HPD Officer Greg Sokoloski at 713-812-5158 or 713-898-3721 (mobile). He will give a Mounted Patrol hat or shirt to anyone that donates for a pair of Hoofwings. Perhaps some would like to co-sponsor, join together with friends & pool their money. To sponsor, make the checks out to Mary Winn, and write "For deposit only - HPD" in the footnote area. Add a note telling her which horse you want to sponsor.
